8. Surrender Control

What we like to believe is within our control to “manage” is too often an illusion that feeds into our delusion about being in control. “Surrender Control” is practical steps and questions that when applied will help you to surrender control over to the plan and care of God in a way that Abraham and King David understandably had incredible difficulty with considering their circumstances. Like these icons of the Old Testament, we end up adding so much to our stress hoping and trying to “manage” on our own what is outside of our control, and often simply out of control.

Upon investigation of King David’s story, NLX 101 participants are asked questions like “What would you say David believed was within his control?” and “List and describe what things you would say proved to be outside of David’s control…” to examine the illusion of control that feeds into our delusion that we are in control. (I know I repeated, but it’s a good line so I used it twice) NLX 101 goes there again with the story of Abraham and Sarah who understandably were confused by the delay of God’s plan for their family and chose to take things into their own hands to hasten God’s progress; and the rest is history concerning the complication and confusion in the middle eastern parts of the world for the past 3000 years or so.

NLX 101 participants are then invited to consider their own stories that have led to challenging circumstances that proved beyond their control and how they managed and mismanaged in ways that started as a mess and escalated into chaos out of control. The questions asked are designed to recognize how irrational our thinking patterns and belief systems really are when it comes to what we believe we can accomplish on our own. The process of this lesson is to develop a sensible strategy of surrender that rationally challenges our delusions.
