{"id":522,"date":"2010-07-17T18:12:05","date_gmt":"2010-07-17T23:12:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sgledhill.com\/bronze\/?p=522"},"modified":"2010-11-02T12:25:12","modified_gmt":"2010-11-02T17:25:12","slug":"word-for-today-july-18th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.freedomfrommedom.com\/member\/word-for-today\/word-for-today-july-18th","title":{"rendered":"Recovery Scripture 00004"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Consider how this passage applies to recovery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>John 5:1-15 <\/strong>(NLT)<\/span><\/p>\n<h5>Jesus Heals a Lame Man<\/h5>\n<p>\u00a0<sup id=\"en-NLT-26177\">1<\/sup> Afterward Jesus returned to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish holy days. <sup id=\"en-NLT-26178\">2<\/sup> Inside the city, near the Sheep Gate, was the pool of Bethesda,<sup>[<a title=\"See footnote a\" href=\"#fen-NLT-26178a\">a<\/a>]<\/sup> with five covered porches. <sup id=\"en-NLT-26179\">3<\/sup> Crowds of sick people\u2014blind, lame, or paralyzed\u2014lay on the porches.<sup>[<a title=\"See footnote b\" href=\"#fen-NLT-26179b\">b<\/a>]<\/sup> <sup id=\"en-NLT-26180\">5<\/sup> One of the men lying there had been sick for thirty-eight years. <sup id=\"en-NLT-26181\">6<\/sup> When Jesus saw him and knew he had been ill for a long time, he asked him, <span>\u201cWould you like to get well?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<sup id=\"en-NLT-26182\">7<\/sup> \u201cI can\u2019t, sir,\u201d the sick man said, \u201cfor I have no one to put me into the pool when the water bubbles up. Someone else always gets there ahead of me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<sup id=\"en-NLT-26183\">8<\/sup> Jesus told him, <span>\u201cStand up, pick up your mat, and walk!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<sup id=\"en-NLT-26184\">9<\/sup> Instantly, the man was healed! He rolled up his sleeping mat and began walking! But this miracle happened on the Sabbath, <sup id=\"en-NLT-26185\">10<\/sup> so the Jewish leaders objected. They said to the man who was cured, \u201cYou can\u2019t work on the Sabbath! The law doesn\u2019t allow you to carry that sleeping mat!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<sup id=\"en-NLT-26186\">11<\/sup> But he replied, \u201cThe man who healed me told me, \u2018Pick up your mat and walk.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<sup id=\"en-NLT-26187\">12<\/sup> \u201cWho said such a thing as that?\u201d they demanded.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<sup id=\"en-NLT-26188\">13<\/sup> The man didn\u2019t know, for Jesus had disappeared into the crowd. <sup id=\"en-NLT-26189\">14<\/sup> But afterward Jesus found him in the Temple and told him, <span>\u201cNow you are well; so stop sinning, or something even worse may happen to you.\u201d<\/span> <sup id=\"en-NLT-26190\">15<\/sup> Then the man went and told the Jewish leaders that it was Jesus who had healed him.<\/p>\n<div class=\"twttr_buttons\"><div class=\"twttr_twitter\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/share?text=Recovery+Scripture+00004\" class=\"twitter-share-button\" data-via=\"\" data-hashtags=\"\"  data-size=\"default\" data-url=\"http:\/\/www.freedomfrommedom.com\/member\/word-for-today\/word-for-today-july-18th\"  data-related=\"\" target=\"_blank\">Tweet<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Consider how this passage applies to recovery.
