Submission is the\u00a0<\/em><em>WHEN\u00a0that must to be committed&#8212;the condition is surrender&#8212;in your relationship with God.<\/em><em>\u00a0To experience the life of\u00a0empowered transformative recovery, you need to be<\/em><em>about the\u00a0<\/em><em>WHEN<\/em><em>\u00a0in the relationship. God\u00a0<\/em><em>THEN\u00a0<\/em><em>will\u00a0<\/em><em>change you into something new.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Until you let go of all of the stuff in your life, your stuff holds you down and keeps you stuck, and you tend to wallow in double-minded beliefs and intentions, holding back the power of God who loves you and wants so much to set you free. But as long as you are holding on&#8212;and you know what the &#8220;stuff&#8221; is that you&#8217;re holding on to&#8212;you hold the power and push back what God wants and will generously do for you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Therefore, I urge you, brothers,\u00a0<em>in view of God&#8217;s mercy<\/em>, to\u00a0<em>offer<\/em>\u00a0your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God\u2014this is your spiritual\u00a0act of worship.\u00a0Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but\u00a0<em>be<\/em>transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God&#8217;s will is\u2014his good, pleasing and perfect will.\u00a0Romans 12:1-2 (NIV)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>What We Do&#8212;<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>God desires to completely transform your life&#8212;every aspect of how you live&#8212;for your own good so that you will have a far better life.<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">There is\u00a0what we do\u00a0in this transformative relationship, and there is what God does. What we do is offer our bodies to God sacrificially with our actions&#8211;our behavior. It is what we do with our eyes and our ears. It is what we do with what goes in and what comes out of our mouths. It is what we reach for with our arms and hold on to with our hands. It is where we go with our legs and where we stay with our feet (Romans 12:1). It is with our bodies that we give in to selfish urges and fall into addictive patterns, and with our bodies that we quit giving in.There is\u00a0<em><strong>what we do<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0from the\u00a0<strong><em>outside in<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>when we offer ourselves sacrificially to God by the way we behave with our bodies.\u00a0Then there is\u00a0<strong><em>what God does in us<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0from the\u00a0<strong><em>inside out<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0to completely transform us by the full renewing of our minds&#8212;literally rearranging our brain chemistry so as to empower us to live better and to think and feel healthier. God exchanges our desires and intentions with His desires and intentions. We then can resist self-centered addictive urges through the power of prayer and actually live in freedom, proving that God&#8217;s plan for us is perfect and beautiful. (Romans 12:1-2)\u00a0What we do is we\u00a0<strong>offer<\/strong>\u00a0our bodies to God. Notice that the word &#8216;offer&#8217; is an action verb.-Why would you say Romans 12:1 begins, &#8220;In view of God&#8217;s mercy&#8221;?\u00a0-What would you say it means to offer your physical body to God as a spiritual action of worship?<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #000000;\">How do you offer your body to God?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #000000;\">What are patterns of behavior (lifestyle) and attitudes in the world that this Scripture might be referring to?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #000000;\">What about the patterns of this world have an addictive element to them? Describe how the patterns you identified above are or have the potential to be addictive.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #000000;\">How would you say these addictive patterns have affected your life?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #000000;\">What do your responses to the previous question indicate concerning your ability to commit your recovery into God&#8217;s care?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #000000;\">How would you say that the spiritual reward from worship to God is different from the physical reward of worship to yourself through your physical body?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<dl id=\"attachment_439\"><\/dl>\n<p><em style=\"font-size: 17px; line-height: 25px;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Inside-Out Recovery<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Therefore, I urge you, brothers,\u00a0in view of God&#8217;s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God\u2014this is your spiritual\u00a0act of worship.\u00a0Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God&#8217;s will is\u2014his good, pleasing and perfect will.\u00a0<\/strong>Romans 12:1-2 (NIV)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;<strong><em>Be<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0transformed by the renewing of your minds&#8221; (Romans 12:2). While the word &#8220;offer&#8221; is an action verb, the word &#8220;be&#8221; is a passive verb, meaning that it is not something we do but rather something that is done to us\u00a0<strong><em>when<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0we act sacrificially with our bodies\u00a0<em>committed<\/em>\u00a0to God&#8217;s way of recovery.\u00a0<em><strong>Then<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0what God does is completely transform our character and our thinking by rearranging the way our brain works, restoring it to what He created in the first place. The promise is of this transformation is that when we live according to our new God-given desires and objectives, both our behavior and\u00a0what we think about and feel\u00a0is healthy again. We are better having become well. We then prove in this new life that God&#8217;s plan for us is perfect and beautiful.\u00a0This is how we can know and experience God&#8217;s will for us.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The transformation we experience is rooted in this When-Then relationship we have when we commit to surrendering our will and life into the care of the Sympathetic Savior, Jesus Christ.\u00a0When\u00a0you think about it, you realize that the key to freedom in most walks of life is submission from childhood on throughout adulthood.\u00a0<strong><em>When<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0you submit to the will and care of God in your life,\u00a0<strong><em>then<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0you will experience the transformation into new life. This is internal transformation from the inside out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>When<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0we offer our bodies, meaning our physical strength to God as a living sacrifice, no longer committing our bodies to addictive patterns of behavior;\u00a0<strong><em>then<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0God completely transforms (metamorphoo) our hearts and our souls by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:1-2).\u00a0<strong><em>Then\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><em><\/em>we can love God with our whole being, and our neighbor as ourselves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>When<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0we commit to change externally from the outside in, changing what we do (Romans 12:1-2a),\u00a0<strong><em>then<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0God changes us internally from the inside out, changing who we are and what we think (Romans 12:2).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>When<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0we delight in the Lord in our action,\u00a0<strong><em>then<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0God gives us the desires of our heart by changing what we want according to his will and purpose.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Trust in the Lord\u00a0and do good.\u00a0Then you will live safely in the land and prosper.\u00a0Take delight in the Lord,\u00a0and he will give you your heart\u2019s desires.\u00a0Commit everything you do to the Lord.\u00a0Trust him, and he will help you.\u00a0<\/strong>Psalm 37:3-5 (NLT)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>When<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0we rejoice, celebrating our recovery in relationship with Christ, offering praise and presenting prayer requests with our mouths, as well as showing considerate acts of service with our physical ability;\u00a0<strong><em>then<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0God replaces our anxiety with peace to our souls, guarding (covering) our hearts and our minds by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, empowering us to do anything (Philippians 4:4-7, 13).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again\u2014rejoice!\u00a0Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Don\u2019t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.\u00a0Then you will experience God\u2019s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.\u00a0And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.\u00a0Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me\u2014everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you&#8230;\u00a0for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have.\u00a0I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.\u00a0For I can do everything through Christ,\u00a0who gives me strength.<\/strong>\u00a0Philippians 4:4-9, 11-13 (NLT)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>When\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>we commit to doing the will of God,\u00a0<strong><em>then<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0God changes our intentions and motives, according to His will.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.<\/strong>\u00a0Philippians 2:13 (NLT)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>When<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0we take responsibility for our behavior, repenting of our guilt (godly sorrow),<strong><em>then\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><em><\/em>God mercifully removes our shame (worldly sorrow) and pain (2 Corinthians 7:10).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There\u2019s no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death.<\/strong>\u00a02 Corinthians 7:10 (NLT)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>When<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0we seek to know and see Jesus through prayer and a lifestyle committed to his will,\u00a0<strong><em>then<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Jesus Christ will turn our sorrow into joy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>I tell you the truth, you will weep and mourn over what is going to happen to me, but the world will rejoice. You will grieve, but your grief will suddenly turn to wonderful joy.<\/strong><strong>\u00a0It will be like a woman suffering the pains of labor. When her child is born, her anguish gives way to joy because she has brought a new baby into the world.<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>So you have sorrow now, but I will see you again; then you will rejoice, and no one can rob you of that joy.<\/strong>\u00a0John 16:20-22 (NLT)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>When<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0we are committed to action according to the will of God, as his will takes over in us converting our intentions into doing what he intends we do,\u00a0<strong><em>then<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0we can ask him for anything and he promises to grant our requests.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>\u201cI am the vine, you\u00a0are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will\u00a0ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.<\/strong>John 15:5, 7 (NKJV)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>When<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0we commit to behaving according to\u00a0the will of God, imitating the model of recovery set for us by the life of His Son Jesus,\u00a0<strong><em>then<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0we have joy overflowing.\u00a0<em>When\u00a0<\/em>we follow Jesus Christ in relationship,\u00a0<strong><em>then<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0we are called Friends of God.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>\u201cAs the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.\u00a0If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father\u2019s commandments and abide in His love.\u00a0These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and\u00a0<em>that<\/em>\u00a0your joy may be full.\u00a0This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.\u00a0Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one\u2019s life for his friends.\u00a0You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.\u00a0No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.\u00a0You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and\u00a0<em>that<\/em>\u00a0your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0John 15:9-16 (NKJV)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #471d0a;\"><em>&#8220;That is why the Christian is in a different position from other people who are trying to be good. They hope, by being good, to please God if there is one; or, they hope to deserve approval from good men. But the Christian thinks any good he does comes from the Christ-life inside him. He does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us; just as the roof of a greenhouse does not attract the sun because it is bright, but becomes bright because the sun shines in it.&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0&#8212;C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">These promises from the Bible reveal a when-then relationship.\u00a0When we are committed to turning away from the things of our addictive flesh\u2014outside-in change, then God is faithful to transforming us from the inside out.\u00a0The original Greek translation for the word \u2018transform\u2019 is metamorphoo, meaning to metamorph from one thing into another; like a caterpillar changing into a butterfly.\u00a0As God transforms our character into a new person by changing how we think, it is like starting a new life.\u00a0We not only do what is healthy, mature, responsible, and godly, we want to willfully do that which pleases God.\u00a0Whenever we do what pleases God it is always to our benefit, never to our detriment.\u00a0That doesn\u2019t mean we never have problems again.\u00a0It means that we have his powerful support to manage and resolve problems and conflicts.\u00a0When we commit our will to do the will of God, doing recovery God\u2019s way, we do much better.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It is entirely possible with God\u2019s help that when we pray with our mouths, and read the Bible, God\u2019s written word, with our eyes, that our minds will be changed.\u00a0We read in Romans 12:2 that the perfect will of God for you and for me is realized as we come to trust him completely and commit to our recovery his way.\u00a0This is God\u2019s way of challenging us to prove that his will for us is ideal.\u00a0What an opportunity we have to experience all that God has and wants for us.\u00a0Our lives make sense again as we commit to the sensible will of God and experience what God has for us in every facet of our livelihood.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #000000;\">What have you learned about the meaning of Romans 12:1-2 as it pertains to living out recovery God&#8217;s way?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #000000;\">What does it mean to you personally to be transformed by the renewing of your mind?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #000000;\">What does it mean to you personally that your relationship with God, and the quality of this relationship, is conditional according to the Bible?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #000000;\">How do you feel about your relationship with God (Jesus Christ) being conditional?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #000000;\">Does a conditional relationship with God mean that He loves you any less?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #000000;\">What are you able, willing, and ready to do concerning your role in this conditional relationship?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #000000;\">What are you less able, willing, and ready to do in this conditional relationship?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #000000;\">How would you say your life needs to be transformed into something new?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #000000;\">What would you like your life look to like transformed from what it has been into something new?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #000000;\">What can you conclude that you need to do to live a transformed life?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #000000;\">What can you conclude God will do to transform your life if let go and let Him do?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"twttr_buttons\"><div class=\"twttr_twitter\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/share?text=TWRAC+042+%2812%2F5%2F11%29%3A+Brainwashed+into+New+Life\" class=\"twitter-share-button\" data-via=\"\" data-hashtags=\"\"  data-size=\"default\" data-url=\"http:\/\/www.freedomfrommedom.com\/member\/applications\/twrac-042-12111-brainwashed-into-new-life\"  data-related=\"\" target=\"_blank\">Tweet<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This Week&#8217;s Recovery Application Challenge Please complete TWIRL 042 if you haven&#8217;t already done so.
